Second Request Case Study
A large telecommunications corporation involved in a telecommunications merger investigation required document collection, processing, hosting, review and production services for a large-scale and high-stakes second request antitrust investigation.
The Advanced Discovery project team, including one of our Relativity Masters, immediately began putting together a project process and workflow plan, identifying all the actions and expert advisors required to deliver on the client’s requirements. In parallel, our Managed Review professionals began staffing activity for the review team to meet the tight production deadline.
The project included:
• Preservation and collection of documents to be reviewed by Advanced Discovery’s expert forensic advisors
• Staffing of the review team: initially a 75-member high-quality review team that worked seamlessly in conjunction with two separate outside counsel law firms engaged by the client
• Prioritization using analytics tools and techniques such as email threading, document clustering, culling and filtering to uncover the most relevant documents for review
Due to the sheer volume of documents involved in second request matters, an additional 25 attorneys were required to meet the production demand, which Advanced Discovery was able to staff quickly
As a team, the 100 reviewers met the aggressive deadline – on time and on budget.
Following Advanced Discovery’s successful production of documents at the conclusion of the two-month review, the need for an additional quick-turnaround production required immediately bringing back 40 of the review attorneys. This review team worked seven straight days to ensure that all deadlines were successfully met.

Rallying a top-notch review team on very short notice, Advanced Discovery worked around the clock over the weekend to both review documents for responsiveness and redact confidential and privileged information. Utilizing Advanced Discovery’s powerful eDiscovery platform with combined analytics, customizable workflows and intelligent dashboards, the project team was better able to control the review schedule to keep the project on time and on budget.
